SUCCESS - Support to the Development of Agroforestry Concessions in Peru

SUCCESS supports the Agroforestry Concessions (ACs) provision on public land established in the new Peruvian Forest Law. The goal of SUCCESS is to contribute to sustainable rural development in Peru by developing effective approaches to operationalizing ACs that seek to formalize smallholder land access rights through the establishment of AFS at the deforestation frontiers. The project evaluates the feasibility of the implementation of ACs based on (a) the eligibility of farmers according to forest zoning categories established by Law, and (b) the capacity of farmers to comply with the requirements of ACs.

We work towards the application of GeoScience in real decision contexts, such as climate change adaptation, hydrological effects of changes in climate and land cover, targeting of agroforestry interventions, provision of soil fertility and surveillance advisory services for smallholder farmers, digital soil and land use/cover mapping, and measuring impacts of interventions, all using open source software.
